Our Lady of the Rosary Prayer Cards

Sr Lucy painted this rendition of Our Lady of the Rosary using watercolour paints and gold ink.

The four roses Our Lady is wearing on her veil represent the four sets of mysteries of the Rosary: Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful and Glorious. Blue is Mary's signature colour, so it features strongly in the picture. The roses in the background suggest that she is standing in a garden growing from the prayers of the faithful, which she will in turn present to her Son Jesus.
Our Lady holds the crucifix of the rosary out to us, while holding the beads over her heart with her other hand, as a reference to her 'treasuring these things and pondering them in her heart.' (cf. Luke 2.19) When we pray the rosary, we join Mary in pondering the mysteries of our faith, and she holds us close to her heart and brings us to her Son. 

This painting was also completed to accompany Sr Lucy's calligraphy of a novena prayer to Our Lady of the Rosary.
